Join meet-up websites for gamers such as online databases or forums such as RPG.net or RPGRegistry.com. These websites allow you to post your own information as well as search through a database of like minded players looking for people or groups to join together. Additionally, you may want to consider posting through generalized websites such as Craigslist.
Contact a local role-playing game store and ask if there are any groups looking for more players to join them. Ask if you can post an ad that will allow other groups seeking potential candidates to know what kind of role-playing game you're looking for.
Attending fandom or gaming conventions and get involved in games or panels. This will allow you an opportunity to mingle with other players, and potentially find an existing role playing group in your area.
Go to a club meeting dedicated to role playing games. You can find these club meetings through local high schools, colleges and universities. When going to a meeting, talk to the people in attendance and get to know them to see if you can find a compatible group for you.
Ask a friend, acquaintance or colleague to see if they know somebody who plays role playing games. If they are a role player, they may be in a group or looking for one as well. Contact these people either by phone, email, or through a personal meeting to see if they are a right match for you.
