How to Create a Nosferatu for Vampire: The Masquerade

The Nosferatu in "Vampire: The Masquerade" are very loosely based on the vampires in the movie of the same name. These vampires could never make it in "Twilight." Instead of skin that sparkles in the sun, Nosferatu have skin that crawls with bugs, exudes a slime or has turned a better shade of pale green. They are repugnant and sometimes smell bad, but they are also stealthy information brokers in the World of Darkness and great fun to play.

Instructions

    • 1

Read the archetypes of Nosferatu in the main book and the clan book. These are examples of your stereotypical Nosferatu vampires and will give you a good idea where to begin. However, no one likes to play a stereotype, so find the elements within each archetype that you like and come up with a plan to make it your own.

    • 2

Review the skills and disciplines that are given to Nosferatu. All Nosferatu are born with animalism, potence and obfuscate as the disciplines of the blood. Animalism gives you the ability to speak to and control animals, obfuscate allows you to change the way you look or appear to be invisible and potence gives you super strength. So, start envisioning how you can use these things in your character.

    • 3

Invent a back story. Many role players mistake the back story as a way to make the character seem cooler than it is and perhaps garner special treatment from the Storyteller. Instead, look at the back story as a telling of the things your best friend might know about you, including the dirty laundry and embarrassing moments. That doesn't mean your character has to have a boring background, but it does mean that you shouldn't try to justify outrageous abilities in every sentence.

    • 4

Allocate your character points. Nosferatu have a discipline linked to each of the three major stat groups: social, mental and physical. But they also take huge negatives in most social interactions because they are so hideous. It's usually best to concentrate your points in either mental or physical traits and minimize the social.

    • 5

Choose the skills that you want to be very good at. Sneaking is a Nosferatu specialty when backed by the discipline of obfuscate. You may also want the disguise ability to enhance your supernatural ability to look like someone else. Some form of hand-to-hand combat skill is also good since potence is another of your clan disciplines.
