How to Role Play a Half-Orc Character in a Dungeons and Dragons Campaign

The players in a campaign of the pen-and-paper role-playing game "Dungeons and Dragons" get to choose among several fantasy races to play. A player who chooses to take on the role of a half-orc will have a difficult time role-playing their race appropriately because of the half-orc's brutal and savage nature, but that can be just as much fun as playing a more noble race like an elf.

Instructions

    • 1

Craft a history for your half-orc that explains how she came to be and what sort of person she is. A half-orc raised among a brutal tribe of orc barbarians will have a very different world view than one who joined a religious order in a large human city as a child.

    • 2

Come up with a name for your character. A half-orc who takes on a guttural name will receive a different reaction when introducing himself than one who adopts the naming conventions of human or elven lands.

    • 3

Work hard to gain acceptance among the other races if you playing a good or neutral aligned half-orc. Commit good deeds whenever possible, strive to understand the cultures of other races, and attempt to become well known enough to rub shoulders with the people in high places.

    • 4

Act in a completely savage and feral manner, taking what you want by force and killing any who get in your way, if you are playing an evil half-orc. Don't bother with following social protocols or attempting to get people to like you, as you will probably end up having to kill them later to take their stuff anyway.

    • 5

Decide if your half-orc will be a brooding character who is constantly depressed about his lot in life or a more optimistic character who tries to see the silver lining in every situation.

    • 6

Feel free to pick any class for your half-orc, as they are just as likely to be any of the standard classes as a human. As long as your character's statistics are high enough, there is no reason he couldn't be a wizard or cleric.

    • 7

Remember to properly role-play your character's attributes. If you choose to have a low intelligence score in order to have higher strength, have a hard time comprehending complex tasks and use a lower form of speech.
