How to Repair a Wii Remote

A working Wii remote control is essential for playing in-house sports games on your Nintendo game system. The Nintendo Wii's design gives users hours of endless enjoyment using the sensor as a pseudo-racket, bat, ball, paddle or other device. You play an simulated tennis match or baseball game by interacting with your digital counterpart, for example. Fixing a Wii remote is essential to play without interruption. If you experience Wii remote issues, you incur more damage by not fixing a serious problem immediately.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect all the remote control's cables properly. Move yourself into a proper position, three to ten feet away from the television screen and Wii game system sensor, according to Wii's manual.

    • 2

Remove items that block the sensor from function, such as candles, pictures or plants. Turn off any cell phones or other digital devices that interfere with the radio frequency signal.

    • 3

Hold the remote. Flip the remote upside down. Pat the remote buttons on your palm with medium pressure two to five times. Performing this action resets frozen cursor or character problems. Always consult your Wii instruction manual in conjunction with remote repairs.

    • 4

Shut the system down. Unplug the Wii remote. Pick any crumbs and dirt out of the crevices between the buttons and the remote shell. Dip a clean cotton swab into rubbing alcohol. Work the wet swab into the crevices and on the tops of all buttons. Removing debris and cleaning with rubbing alcohol can fix sticky or malfunctioning buttons.

    • 5

Unscrew the shell panel. Remove the buttons from the circuit board. Clean the circuit board with rubbing alcohol and a fresh cotton swab. Clean carefully to ensure no swab fibers are left on the board. Circuit boarding cleaning removes grime from interior connections. Place the remote back together and reattach.
