How to Play Jeopardy

"Jeopardy" is a TV show that features a game that is played by answering trivia questions that are chosen from a board of categories. Unlike traditional trivia, the players are given the answer and asked to provide the question. For example, the clue will be, "This animal has four legs and barks," to which the contestant will reply, "What is a dog?" There are three rounds, Jeopardy, Double Jeopardy and Final Jeopardy.

Instructions

  1. Jeopardy and Double Jeopardy

    • 1

Choose a clue from the clue board by selecting a category and a dollar amount. In the first round of Jeopardy, there are 30 clues available. Each of the six categories contains five clues which are valued at $100, $200, $300, $400 and $500. In Double Jeopardy, there are also 30 clues in six categories, but the values are doubled.

    • 2

Ring in if you know the answer to the clue. The first contestant to ring in gets the chance to answer the clue in question form. If the contestant gets the answer correct, she is awarded the value of the clue, along with being allowed to choose the next category and dollar amount. If a contestant answers incorrectly, the value of the clue is deducted from her score. If no one answers a clue correctly, the last person who chose a clue gets to choose again.

    • 3

Continue until all of the clues have been given. If a contestant has $0 or is in the negative at the end of Double Jeopardy, he is not allowed to play in Final Jeopardy.

    Final Jeopardy

    • 4

Read the category for Final Jeopardy.

    • 5

Make a wager. Each contestant makes a wager based on his confidence in answering the clue based on the category. A contestant's wager cannot exceed the amount that she has earned in Jeopardy and Double Jeopardy. These wagers are kept private, so the contestants need to bet strategically based on their opponents' scores.

    • 6

Reveal the clue. Each contestant gets 30 seconds to write down a response on his electronic tablet.

    • 7

Reveal the answer. If a contestant answers correctly, he is rewarded the amount of his bet, potentially doubling his money. If the contestant answers incorrectly, he loses the amount of his bet, potentially ending with $0. The player who finishes with the highest score (most money) wins the game.
