How to Restore Jade

Jade is a gemstone that comes in a range of colors, although it is most commonly green. It is often carved into statues or miniatures or set as jewels in rings, necklaces and earrings. Jade has been used for centuries, with the oldest objects made during the early Chinese dynasties. There is little that can be done to restore dried or faded jade, but general care and cleaning will restore at least some of its natural luster.

Instructions

    • 1

Combine warm water with a few drops of a mild dishwashing soap or other mild cleaner. The water should not be obviously soapy.

    • 2

Remove any dust from the jade with a soft lint free cloth.

    • 3

Wipe the jade with a clean washcloth dampened with the water soap mix. Do not scrub the jade and do not submerge the jade in water.

    • 4

Finish the cleaning process by cleaning the jade with some clean water and a cloth to remove any remaining soap suds.

    • 5

Dry the jade using a dry soft cloth and polish with a lint-free cloth.
