How to Make a Flat Blade Sword

Making a medieval-style flat-blade sword, using commonly found modern tools, is a lot easier nowadays than it once was. In the past, swords had to be hammered out of raw steel, but now you can purchase materials that can be easily fashioned into an impressive sword for that upcoming costume party you are going to. A metal sword can be dangerous, so be careful with it around other people.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Cut 6 inches off one end of the 4-foot metal strip using the angle grinder. This will be the hilt of the sword.

    • 2

Drill a hole in the center of the 6-inch hilt piece of the same size as your bolt.

    • 3

Drill a hole of the same size in the 5-foot 6-inch steel strip 6 inches from one end. Using the nut and bolt, connect the two metal strip pieces and tighten them into place, making a T shape using the wrench.

    • 4

Shape the tip and blade of the sword to your liking using the angle grinder.

    • 5

Wrap the rope around the 6-inch sword handle to provide grip and to make the sword more comfortable in your hand. Tie off the end of the rope at the bottom of the handle.
