How to Regulate a Cuckoo Clock

If you have a traditional cuckoo clock that no longer provides the right time, it may need to be regulated. Regulate your cuckoo clock over a series of days to ensure the process is done successfully. You will need no special skills nor tools to get the old bird chirping on time.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the pendulum from your cuckoo clock.

    • 2

Determine whether your clock is running behind or ahead on time by comparing it to an accurate clock or the time announced on a local radio station.

    • 3

Raise the leaf or acorn lever on the pendulum if the clock is behind. Lower the leaf or acorn lever on the pendulum if the time on your cuckoo clock is ahead of schedule. Each quarter-inch you move the lever either way represents 15 minutes. Make one adjustment daily until you get to the right time. Humidity, clock placement and a host of other factors can affect how a cuckoo clock keeps time, so giving it 24 hours to catch up between adjustments will ensure that you eventually get accurate time-keeping.
