Things You'll Need
Instructions
Determine the cause of the squeak. Move your rocking chair to another location to see if the squeaking persists. The sound could be from a loose floor board or an uneven area of the floor.
Inspect your rocking chair for any loose parts at the bottom of the chair. If a loose piece is causing the squeaking, use glue for wooden rocking chairs. The glue is available from local craft and hobby stores.
Spray WD40 or 3-in-1 oil on the joints of any metal pieces. You can also use a small dab of cooking oil. Apply the oil to a paper towel and then gently rub it on the metal joint. Move the chair back and forth with your hand to see if the squeak continues. Apply more oil until the squeaking stops.
Purchase a cushion for your rocking chair that is made of a soft, cotton material. Consider purchasing a cushion the supports the seat and back of the chair. Sit on the cushion and see if the squeaking persists.
Place a rug or floor mat under your chair if the squeaking continues after adding oil and a cushion. Make sure the mat is balanced and will help to muffle any sounds.
