Beginnings
Noritake originated with two brothers named Morimura in New York in 1876. Named after them (Morimura Brothers), it was a trading company that imported chinaware and paper lanterns, among other items.
Foundation
In 1904, the company moved to the village of Noritake, which is located near Nagoya, Japan. Taking the name of the village where it was based, the goal was to manufacture Western-style dinnerware exports.
Mass Production
Starting from 1914, Noritake made dinnerware plates. Handmade at first, the company eventually introduced assembly lines for mass production, thus enabling it to widen its market reach.
Products
Today, Noritake has a wide range of products--from bakeware to glassware, bone china to ivory porcelain.
Popularity
Avid collectors of Noritake can be found worldwide, with their own websites.
