Birch
Birch is a stiff, sturdy, heavy wood that is often found in the northeast United States and Canada.
Maple
Maple is a sturdy wood that is harder and stronger than birch. It is abundantly found in the eastern United States. Maple cabinets are of a higher grade than those made of birch.
Cost
Birch cabinets are much cheaper than maple. You can save up to 80 percent on your materials when you choose birch instead of maple for your remodeling project.
Color
Both birch and maple wood are light in color, although birch is more yellow and maple is more of a reddish brown. Both types of cabinets can be stained easily, although maple is more versatile---it can be stained to look like walnut or cherrywood.
Texture
Although they are both pleasing to the eye, if you want the texture of your cabinets to be more fine and smooth, choose maple. Birch wood is rougher to the touch.
