How to Value RS Prussia Collectibles
To make sure you have an RS Prussia collectible, familiarize yourself with the marks the company put on its pieces. The most common one consists of a two-color star and wreath plus "RS Prussia." But to complicate things, some pieces bear other marks, and some aren't marked at all. Get more information on markings from books such as "R. S. Prussia &More: Schlegelmilch Porcelain Featuring Cobalt" and "R.S. Prussia Popular Lines: Identification and Value Guide."
Use the illustrations in books to determine when an RS Prussia collectible was made. Those dating from before 1910 usually command higher prices than later pieces do, because plainer molds began to take the place of more ornate ones. The older ornate ones have beautiful, curving shapes that increase their value.
Learn which designs are most in demand -- and therefore most costly. For example, animals, scenes and portraits (think Victorian ladies) tend to be more valuable than floral designs. Bird images -- especially ostriches -- are quite sought after.
Examine the finish and decoration of your RS Prussia piece. Extra value is attached to those with gold decoration and special finishes such as iridescent ones.
Go hunting for RS Prussia collectibles at antiques shops and fairs. Compare your piece to others you see to help you determine value.
