How to Test a Diamond D-Jet

Diamond D-jet is a composite, five-seat luxury jet manufactured by Austrian-based Diamond Aircraft Industries. The company has built three prototypes of the single-engine jet aircraft, and is currently testing the aircraft, after initially suspending the testing in March 2011 due to funding difficulties. Most aircraft manufacturers conduct extensive testing of the airplanes before releasing them into the market. These tests include instrumentation tests that evaluate the instruments and gadgets of plane; ground tests that check the aircraft during taxi and rate the engine function; and the flight maneuver tests that assess the takeoff, climb, cruise and landing of the aircraft. The Federal Aviation Agency further certifies the aircrafts before the manufacturer can sell them. However, if you intend to buy a single engine, personal aircraft such as Diamond D-jet, you should look for certain essential features as well.

  Check the price. The cost of the aircraft is often the most important criteria for several buyers. Once the flight testing is complete, Diamond Aircraft Industries will make the Diamond D-Jet available for purchase at a price of about $1.89 million.

  Determine the level of comfort offered by the aircraft by looking at the passenger and pilot cabin size as well as the baggage space. The D-Jet cabin offers an open and spacious cabin space with two plus three seating configuration, and a rear bench that can accommodate three people. The glass cockpit offers great visibility. If this matches your requirements for comfort, look for the payload.

  Determine the number of miles you will be travelling on an average. This will determine the size of fuel tank you need, and the number of times you may have to refuel you aircraft. This is generally measured in terms of the payload, or the carrying capacity of the aircraft. The passenger payload of a D-Jet is about 800 pounds while the useful payload is about 2,240 pounds.

  Understand the pilot skills and experience required for the D-Jet, especially if you plan to fly it yourself. The D-Jet is appropriate for anyone who is proficient in high-performance single engine planes and turbo props. D-Jet offers flight training and simulation services at certain locations.

  Hire a mechanic to do a pre-purchase inspection of the aircraft. The mechanic should check for airframe and the engine of the aircraft. This is especially important for used planes. Your local airports may provide the list of certified inspectors in your area.
