How to Convert 3PM to Spektrum

Spektrum is a radio control device used for model aircraft. It uses advanced frequency hopping technologies to produce an authentic flying experience. With the elimination of 2.4 channel conflicts, the flying of the aircraft becomes the focus rather than problems with the technology. The Spektrum systems are faster and produce less engine noise than other transmitters. Drop-in modules are available, allowing aircraft hobbyists to convert their 3PM transmitters to Spektrum in a few easy steps.

Things You'll Need

  • Spektrum Air Module System (module replacement kit)

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the parts from your Spektrum replacement kit. The kit includes a new antenna, transmitter replacement module, cable, mounting studs and mounting screws.

    • 2

Remove the original antenna from your transmitter by gently pulling on it. The antenna should come off easily. Add the antenna adapter from the Spektrum Air Module System by inserting it in the antenna hole left by the previous antenna.

    • 3

Secure the antenna to the base load of your transmitter by connecting it to the metal stud and attaching it with a set screw.

    • 4

Connect the antenna to the back of the module with the 6-inch cable included in the replacement kit, and screw it into place.

    • 5

Slide out the existing module from the back of the transmitter and insert the new module into the same position.

    • 6

Bind the two systems together by inserting the binding plug into the receiver̵7;s battery port.

    • 7

Turn on the transmitter and hold down the bind button on the module. Continue holding down the button until all the lights on the receivers come on. When the lights are all on, this means a link is established.

    • 8

Perform a voltage check on the power expander and batteries, and seal the canopy before attempting a test flight.
