How to Loosen a Cox 049 Engine

Cox manufactures small combustible engines that are used in remote-controlled aircraft. The Cox 049 functions in much the same way as a larger engine: It is powered by fuel and connects to the front propeller of the aircraft. Like a standard engine, it is made up of various components; tightening or loosening these components -- such as the needle valve -- will allow you to add fuel to it.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the aircraft and use your screwdriver to remove the plane housing from around the engine according to the manual for your particular model airplane.

    • 2

Loosen the screw at the front of the propeller and remove it. Remove the propeller from the unit.

    • 3

Locate the metal needle valve at the end of the engine, near where you removed the propeller; it looks like the top of a screw.

    • 4

Turn the needle valve counterclockwise to open it; this allows you to insert the fuel hose and refuel the engine.

    • 5

Turn the fuel valve clockwise when you are finished refueling to secure the valve.
