How to Drill the Prop for the DL-50

Drilling a model prop for the DL-50 isn't a complicated procedure, but you do need to be careful to not damage the propeller in the process. Using a drill press rather than a handheld electric drill ensures you can drill the necessary holes at precisely a 90-degree angle, maintaining the ability of the prop to turn evenly. Since hobby props include the center prop shaft pre-drilled, all you have to do is drill out the four holes for the prop hub.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the prop hub from the DL-50 engine with a screwdriver. All four screws need to be removed to align the prop. Do not remove the prop shaft from the engine.

    • 2

Place the prop onto the engine's prop shaft, then slide the top plate of the prop hub onto the prop shaft. Use the magic marker to draw a dot inside each of the four holes in the prop hub top plate.

    • 3

Remove the prop from the engine, then select a drill bit that is the same size as the screws used to secure the prop hub together. Insert this drill into the drill press chuck.

    • 4

Align the propeller with the drill bit and turn on the drill press. Drill out each of the four holes in the propeller. When this is completed, mount the prop hub onto the propeller and connect it to the DL-50 engine.
