Things You'll Need
Instructions
Check that the fuel line attached to the Fox carburetor sits in the "off" position, not allowing fuel to flow. Apply a screwdriver to the clamp holding the fuel line to the carburetor. Loosen it. Pull the fuel line off the carburetor. Pinch the fuel line to avoid vapor release.
Release the wire throttle trigger connected to the carburetor, using a screwdriver or crescent wrench. Locate the nuts and bolts attaching the carburetor to the engine intake. Loosen them and remove the carburetor. Disconnect the air filter clamp and remove the filter from the carburetor.
Pull the unit off the engine and place it on a rag spread out on a table. Disassemble the carburetor parts, placing all the small bits into a cup for safekeeping. Use a socket wrench and crescent wrenches to remove all the hardware holding parts together. Use a screwdriver to loosen the jet assemblies after removing the float bowl cover.
Wash each part by spraying it down with carburetor cleaner solvent. Let the cleaner drip onto a rag while cleaning. Spray the inside and outside, using a plastic toothbrush for any gentle scrubbing.
Place the cleaned parts aside and let them air dry. Open up a Fox carburetor rebuild kit and spread out the included gaskets.
Begin to reassemble the Fox carburetor, replacing the old jets with the new ones included in the rebuild kit. Apply new gaskets and rubber rings from the kit when joining parts together again. Secure them with the previously-removed nuts and bolts, using a crescent wrench, but do not over-tighten.
Finish the assembly and check the work table and cup to see that you haven't forgotten any parts. Transport the carburetor back to the airplane engine.
Reinstall the carburetor to the intake manifold. Tighten the securing bolts. Hook the throttle cable to the top of the carburetor throttle trigger. Insert the fuel line onto the carburetor and tighten the line clamp again. Attach the air filter and related clamp, tightening it with a screwdriver.
