Volcano ESC Instructions

Electronic speed controllers, or ESC, are used in battery-powered RC vehicles. The Volcano ESC, manufactured by Exceed RC, comes in a variety of amperage ratings and has a full range of features. These ESC's are designed to work with brushless motors in RC airplanes and helicopters. The Volcano series is programmable via an RC transmitter or a separately purchased programming card.

Instructions

    • 1

Solder a connector onto the battery leads; this connector needs to match the connector on your battery pack. Protect the solder joins with heat shrink tubing or electrical tape.

    • 2

Solder bullet connectors onto each of the three wires that run to the motor. These connectors need to match the connectors on the brushless motor. Protect these connectors with heat shrink tubing or electrical tape. Cover the entire connector to avoid short circuits.

    • 3

Install the Volcano ESC by plugging the three wire plug into channel three on the receiver. Attach the blue wires to your brushless motor.

    • 4

Set the throttle on the transmitter to the off position by pushing the left stick all the way down. Power on the transmitter then attach the battery pack to the Volcano ESC. The ESC should play a series of beeps as it powers on, if not check the connection to the receiver.

    • 5

While holding the plane or helicopter with your hands, safely away from moving blades, slowly move the throttle stick up. Check to see if the prop or rotors are moving the air in the correct direction (down for helicopters, toward the tail in airplanes). If the motor is running backward, swap any two of the wires running from the ESC to the motor.
