Build Instructions for the Fusuno Airwolf RC

In the mid-80s, "Airwolf" was a popular television show about a high-tech helicopter and its crew. In addition to a sleek design, the one-of-a-kind craft had an advanced computer system, missiles, chain guns and a turbo-assisted engine that made it a match for almost anything in the sky. Since then, model helicopter pilots have been raising the cool factor of the hobby by building their own miniature versions. These days Airwolf helicopters are a lot easier to build thanks to Fusuno, which offers fiberglass fuselage kits complete with retractable landing gear.

Things You'll Need

  • Assembled remote control electric helicopter
  • Small servo motor
  • Radio transmitter
  • Radio receiver

Instructions

    • 1

Clear a workspace and lay out all of your materials. Unpack the fuselage and set all of the parts out in the work area.

    • 2

Remove the front section of the fuselage, which is attached with magnets. Remove the cap on the end of the tail boom and attach the tail fin with the included screws. Set the tail boom cap aside. Use clear epoxy to glue the clear windshield in place. Assemble the tail fins and guns with the clear epoxy. Set everything aside in a well-ventilated area to dry.

    • 3

Assemble the servo rods by screwing the connectors to the ends of the rods. Connect the completed rods to the retractable landing gear. The long rods attach to the rear wheels. The short rod is for the front wheel. Adjust the levers and lock them in place with the included screws and connectors. Test the landing gear by gently puling and pushing the short servo rod. The gear should extend and retract smoothly and in unison. Make any necessary adjustments by unscrewing and resetting the connections. Once you are satisfied, tighten all connections.

    • 4

Remove the fuselage from the helicopter you intend to use. Remove the skids, tail boom supports and tail fins. Remove the tail rotor assembly and set it aside. If you have a belt-driven tail rotor, secure the belt so that it does not slide into the tail boom.

    • 5

Slide the helicopter chassis into the fuselage and visually assess the fit. Glue the included wooden spacers into the fuselage and set it aside to dry. After it dries, slide the chassis back into the fuselage and screw it in place with the screws from the helicopter landing skids and the spacers at the point of attachment.

    • 6

Reassemble the tail rotor assembly. Put the tail boom end cap back into place. Attach the small servo motor to the landing gear and plug it into the radio receiver. Attach the tail fins and guns. Place the front hatch onto the fuselage and your build is complete.

    • 7

Go to your flying area. Perform your pre-flight checks and lift off.
