How to Get Started With FSX

Flight Simulator 10 (FSX) is a realistic aircraft simulator developed by Microsoft in 1979 to run on the Apple II computer. Flight Simulator for the PC (Version 1.0) was released in 1982. Flight Simulator has gone through several development versions leading up to FSX, the most recent version. Once you learn the basics, Flight Simulator will provide many hours of simulated air time in a variety of planes and missions.

      Start your computer. Insert disk 1 of the Microsoft FSX program disks in CD/DVD drive. Follow the on-screen directions to install the program. You will need administrator rights to install the program, but not to play FSX. You will be prompted to enter a Product Key during the installation. Activate the software the first time you start FSX by following the on-screen instructions. When installation is complete an FSX icon will appear on your desk top. Remove the FSX disk from the CD/DVD drive and insert the Joystick disk. Remove the disk when the joystick software is loaded on your computer.

      Double click on the FSX icon to start the program. From the menu on the left side of the screen click on Learning Center. In the new window click on Getting Started then choose "I'm New" from the options offered in the next window. Enjoy the introduction to Flight Simulator.

      Choose "end flight" at the end of the introduction. Re-start FSX and return to the Learning Center by selecting from the menu on the left side of the screen. Click on the Lessons tab at the top of the screen. The new screen will present options for student pilot, private pilot, commercial pilot and airline transport pilot. Select student pilot if you are a flying beginner. Click on each of the student pilot lessons to begin flying. Beginners who just want to fly right away can go to the Learning Center main menu and click on "Missions." Select a tutorial mission, buckle your seat belt and get ready to fly.
