How to Use a Pitch Meter

When building model helicopters, you can make use of a pitch meter to make sure that your helicopter blades are spinning at the right angle. Pitch meters are easy to use, as they only require that your fly bar is level, and will easily connect to your helicopter through the use of thumbscrews.

Instructions

    • 1

Clamp the fly bar support to the tail boom of your mini-helicopter, then clamp the fly bar support to your fly bar.

    • 2

Adjust the sliding lever on the fly bar support up or down until the fly bar is completely level. Use the bubble level provided with the pitch meter set to determine this. Tighten the nut on the fly bar support once the fly bar is level.

    • 3

Place the jaws of your pitch meter just under the blade at the midspan point, and tighten the meter's thumbscrew.

    • 4

Attach the magnetic fly bar level on the shaft of the fly bar, as close to the fly bar head as possible. The level should be attached entirely to the length of the fly bar.

    • 5

Level the fly bar by hand, using the fly bar level as a guide, then get your reading from the pitch meter.
