Thermal Scout
The Thermal Scout is a simplified version of some competition gliders and is a good starting point for the teenager or adult entering the world of balsa wood gliders. It has a 17-inch wing span, with gracefully curved wings that give it a bird-like appearance. The flexible nature of the glider gives it a forgiving launch style which is crucial for the beginner. The body can be outfitted with a carbon rod for increased stability.
Mr. Jazz
The Mr. Jazz is a competition glider with a 15-inch wingspan that is rated for improving fliers. This glider requires a little more expertise to build and fly but is still on the beginner end of the glider spectrum. It has gracefully curved upswept wings and a curved simulated cockpit. The launch techniques for Mr. Jazz require a little more finesse than those of a beginning glider but they should be easily mastered with some practice.
Mr. Shifter
Mr. Shifter is a competition glider with an 18-inch wingspan and pop-up boom. The pop-up boom is set at a 45-degree angle to provide lift. This glider is designed to fly high during competition and is launched using a rubber band. For these reasons it should be built and flown by more advanced fliers.
Terraplane 22"
The Terraplane 22" is a proven competition model for experienced fliers. With upswept and graceful wings, this model can soar for long distances and great heights. As with all advanced competition models, the Terraplane should only be built and flown after you have gained considerable experience with other models. Once you have practiced and become comfortable flying smaller models, this is the one that will give you your first competition win.
