Identification
A pull starter coil attaches to a remote control (RC) motor assembly. The user pulls an external cord connected to the coil portion. The pulling action on the cord and coil combination energizes the motor for propelling the RC vehicle forward.
Malfunctioning Pull Starter
A common coil assembly problem is a tangled cord inside the housing, near the attached coil. Tangling occurs from oil or debris build-up over time. Carefully open the pull starter coil's outside housing. Clean out the housing and spray new motor lubricant inside. Visually verify that the coil portion remains tightly coiled before securing the assembly back together.

Extreme RC Cars Magazine suggests tapping the outside pull starter housing before opening the assembly. The coil or cord may be jammed, requiring a quick jarring tap to recoil back into position.
