A319 Plane Specs

The Airbus A319 is a downsized variant belonging to the very successful single-aisle A320 family. Introduced in 1996, its production designation as the A320M-7 tells the story: The A319 is an A320 minus seven rows of seats. Shortening the fuselage by approximately 12 feet reduced passenger capacity, but other changes were purposely kept to a minimum, making the A319 otherwise virtually identical to its larger sibling. With the same fuel capacity and engine configurations but a shorter, lighter fuselage, the range of the A319 exceeds the A320 by 400 nautical miles. The A319 was designed to bring larger aircraft comfort and performance to markets previously served only by smaller airliners or regional jets.
  1. Engines

    • The twin-engine Airbus A319 is available with two engine options. The CFM56-5B turbofan, a joint production of General Electric and SNECMA of France, delivers 22,000 pounds of thrust. This is the principal engine of the A320 family, installed in over 60 percent of the aircraft. The V2500-5 made by International Aero Engines is also available and produces 23,040 pounds of thrust.

    Performance

    • The range of the A319 is 3,700 nautical miles. Maximum cruising speed is 487 knots and maximum economical cruising speed is 454 knots.

    Capacity

    • The A319 seats 124 passengers in a two-class configuration with 8 premium seats and 116 economy seats. In a high density, single-class configuration, the A319 can seat 142 passengers.

    Dimensions

    • The wingspan of the A319 is 111 feet, 3 inches with a total wing area of 1,317.5 square feet. Overall length is 111 feet, and height is 38 feet, 8 inches. The cabin is 78 feet long and 12 feet, 1 inch wide.

    Production History

    • Since 1996, Airbus has produced 1,285 A319s as of May 2011. Of those, 1,284 are still in service and 201 are on order. Easyjet Airlines has the largest number of A319s in its fleet. Other major users of the A319 include USAirways, Delta Airlines, United Airlines and Air France.
