Power
The A36 comes standard with a six-cylinder Continental IQ-550B engine that produces 285 horsepower. An optional turbocharged version, the A36TC, is powered by a 300-horsepower Continental TSIO-520-UB. Average fuel consumption is 16 gallons per hour, and the aircraft fuel capacity is 74 gallons, providing a cruise range of 720 nautical miles. Oil capacity of the engine is 12 quarts.
Performance
Bonanza's A36 has a cruising speed of 169 KIAS (knots indicated airspeed.) Its rate of climb at sea level is 1,210 feet per minute, and the service ceiling is 18,500 feet. With an approach speed of less than 91 KIAS, the A36 is classified as an ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) Category A aircraft.
Operation
The stall speed of an A36 at a typical flying weight of 3,200 pounds is 55 KIAS. Recommended minimums for safe operation are as follows: Liftoff speed is 70 KIAS. Speed at 50-foot altitude is 80 KIAS. Recommended speed for best rate of climb is 96 KIAS. Safe landing approach speed is 76 KIAS. The length of the takeoff roll at typical speed is 917 feet. Maximum landing-gear extension speed is 153 KIAS. At typical approach into a 9-knot headwind, estimated ground roll is 913 feet.
Controls
The A36 is a single-control aircraft that is controllable from one seat at a time. However, its "throw-over" control yoke pivots to shift controls from the left seat to the right seat. Early A36 models had continuous position flap settings without detents. Beginning in 1979, three preset flap settings were incorporated as detents: Up, Approach (12 degrees extension) and Down (30 degrees extension.)
Dimensions
The wingspan is 33 feet, 6 inches, and the length of the aircraft is 27 feet, 6 inches. Cabin width is 42 inches. The landing gear is a retractable tricycle variety.
