Lear Jet Landing Check List

Since pioneering a new market segment in 1963 with the flight of the original six to eight-seat Lear Jet 23; the Learjet family of jets has been among the fastest and best-selling business class jets globally. The standardized requirements for piloting a Lear jet specifies the need for one pilot and one copilot, plus the issuance of pilot type rating based on the completion of a pilot proficiency check. At any stage in operation, standardized checklists should be used to ensure consistent and safe operations, especially before take-off and during landing procedures.
  1. On Decent

    • On descent you need to check cabin pressurization; ensure it is set on landing elevation. Make sure the windshield heat is on; apply anti-ice as needed. Ensure that the crew briefing has been completed.

    On Approach

    • As you begin your approach, make sure all seat-belts have been secured and the "No Smoking" sign is switched on. Ensure that the H Valve has been closed and that the defogger is out. Make sure the V speed and altimeters are set and verify that the autopilot is off. Fuel balance should be checked, as well as the hydraulic emergency air and circuit breakers.

Check that the AC and the radar altimeter are on. Arm the thrust reverser and check engine instruments. Ensure that the avionics is set and checked.

    Landing

    • On landing you must turn on the landing lights and make sure spoilers are retracted. Check to make sure landing gear is deployed and down; then verify that the parking brakes are off and hydraulic pressure is checked.

Switch on anti-skid and establish speed on final approach.

Set the flaps to land; touchdown the main wheels first. After touchdown, apply reverse thrust; slow down to 60 knots and then cancel reverse thrust. Extend the spoilers and apply the brakes as needed. Turn on the taxi lights and taxi from runway.

    After Landing

    • Activate parking brake and verify it is set. Idle the throttle and verify that the thrust reverser is switched off.

Turn off ignition, stall warning, passenger lights and strobe lights. Switch off the navigation, taxi and landing lights.

Make sure the flaps are up and spoilers are retracted. Reset the trim and switch off radar and avionics. Turn the pilot heat and anti-ice off. Finally, cut off fuel flow and verify that the beacon and master switch are off.
