Working with Carbon Fiber
Cutting carbon fiber is similar to cutting wood using a fine edged saw. However, carbon fiber tends to splinter, affecting its strength and aesthetics. A good cutting tool is a jeweler's saw, which has very fine teeth that cause less splintering. It is also a good idea to invest in fine cutting scissors for cutting and to polish off the ends.
Carbon fiber can be drilled with any drill. Prepare the fiber before drilling by applying paint, plastic buffer or super glue to prevent fraying. Use a sharp bit and drill slowly into the fiber to prevent the drill from pulling the fiber. After drilling, use fine sandpaper to smooth the drilled area. Finish the hole by applying super glue to the edges to hold the loose fibers.
Bolt finished pieces together. Bolting involves drilling a hole into both pieces you wish to attach. Push the two pieces together and secure the bolt with epoxy glue. Use screws to increase the strength of the bond.
