How to Build Main Wing RC Airplanes With Instructions

A main wing remote control (RC) airplane gets its name by the fact that the airplane is basically nothing but a large flying wing. These aircraft come in kits or models requiring some basic assembly prior to flying. Concentrate on three sections as you build a kit from the instructions: the wing, the landing gear and the engine. By separating the project into sections, you will not get mired in trying to get too many steps ahead. When all of the sections are complete, put them together to make the final main wing airplane.

Things You'll Need

  • Aircraft adhesive
  • Light with magnifying glass

Instructions

    • 1

Read the instructions three times. Read quickly the first time to glean an idea of the basic construction principles. Read the instructions thoroughly the second time through, highlighting areas that you have questions about. Read the instructions a third time to recap the information and glean a more solid idea of the construction process.

    • 2

Lay out all of the kit pieces. Arrange them in sections. For example, set all of the wing parts in one area, all of the landing gear portions in another area and the engine and gear in a third. Cut out parts from the frames with a scalpel or utility knife. If necessary, file off rough edges or nibs on the parts with fine sandpaper.

    • 3

Assemble the wing first. Follow the step-by-step directions in your paper instructions. Use toothpicks to apply small amounts of glue. Use a magnifying light to view intricate or small regions, and to assemble fine pieces.

    • 4

Assemble the landing gear and test the wheels by spinning them or making sure the struts are at the angles indicated in the instructions. Set the landing gear aside.

    • 5

Attach the engine and controls to the wing. Test the engine according to the kit's instructions.

    • 6

Attach the landing gear to the wing and test the angles by wheeling it on a flat surface. Test the engine one last time and then go flying.
