How to Set up a Trex 450 SE Spectrum DX6I

For all models of the Trex 450 SE, including the special Spectrum DX6I versions, you need to set the helicopter up properly before take-off. This is sometimes called a preflight check. It is a series of items that some pilots go over -- before even starting their aircraft -- to make sure they don't find a problem later, when it's up in the air.

Masking tape

Instructions

  Unscrew the two screws holding the canopy onto the front of the Trex 450. Examine the interior, looking for any parts that may be broken or damaged.

  Unscrew the tail rotor from its mount, and set the screws aside in a safe place.

  Slide the tail rotor onto a pencil. Tap it, to test that it moves freely.

  Keep the pencil level, while you look at the rotor from multiple angles. If the tail rotor does not appear even, attach tape to the tip of the higher blade, until the tail becomes even. Smooth the tape you apply to the tail.

  Put a loop of tape on the right-hand blade of the main rotor.

  Power on the remote control and helicopter. Shift the throttle controls upward, to about 1/4-power. The rotor will begin spinning, but the aircraft should not take off.

  Spot the piece of tape, as it spins around on the rotor. Look at the helicopter from the side, to see whether or not it seems to be moving flat, compared to the ground. If not, power down the rotor and adjust the linkage rods. Retest until the rotor is even.

  Power down the motor and controller.

  Fit the canopy over the front of the helicopter, and screw it back into place. Fit the tail rotor back onto the tail boom, and screw it back into place. Your helicopter is now ready to fly
