How to Identify EC130h Compass Call on a Map Overlay

The EC-130H is based on Lockheed's venerable C-130, a turboprop driven cargo aircraft designed to operate anywhere at any time. The electronics warfare version of the C-130, known as "Compass Call," is designed to jam the sensors and intelligence-gathering abilities of the opposing force. Like all individual combat systems, it does not have a single designator for use on maps, but it can be clearly identified and labeled using existing map symbology.

Instructions

    • 1

Set the sheet on which you will be drawing the overlay on top of the map. If you're using a computer program to draw the map, make the overlay the active layer. Locate the EC-130H's position by using the coordinates you have been given.

    • 2

Draw a curved triangle with no bottom -- it should look something like the top half of an egg or the rounded form of the capital letter "A" without its middle bar. This identifies the symbol as being an aerial unit. Make the boundary line solid and thick.

    • 3

Write a capital letter "J" in the center of the symbol, again making it as bold and distinct as possible. This identifies the symbol as being a "jamming" unit -- the primary responsibility of the EC-130H.

    • 4

Shade the symbol a light blue to denote that it belongs to the friendly side. If, in the scenario for which you are drawing a map, the EC-130H belongs to the opposing force, shade the symbol light red instead to mark it as hostile.
