How to Trim a Hobby Zone Super Cub

The Hobby ZOne Super Cub is a scale model of the bush aircraft Super Cub. The RC airplane has a wingspan of 47.7 inches, an overall length of 32.5 inches and flying weight of 25.5 ounces. Like the airplane it is based on, the RC Super Cub uses trim to help control the airplane during flight. Briefly explained, trim helps maintain the pressure either on or off the nose as the aircraft maneuvers in the sky.

Instructions

    • 1

Start the Super Cub and bring it into the air via the takeoff run. As the aircraft gains altitude push the trim adjuster -- the lever on the left hand side of the control box -- in 1/4 click increments. Watch the aircraft for any "crabbing" in the air. Crabbing is where the aircraft is going straight but does not appear to be in a linear line. This is a result of the "P" factor and requires a slight trim adjustment.

    • 2

Push up on the lever until the airplane gets back into a straight line. Feel the control on the right side for any pressure on the lever. Pressure indicates the airfoils -- the wing and tail surfaces -- are experiencing pressure and affecting the performance of the aircraft.

    • 3

Push the lever down to relieve pressure off the air foils as the Super Cub loses altitude and push the lever up as the Cub climbs.

    • 4

Use micro-adjustments on the trim lever as you learn the nuances of trim and throttle control. It is a bit like learning how to drive standard and finding the sweet-spot between clutch and throttle.
