How to Wire a Remote Control Plane Motor

Your remote control (RC) plane motor converts electrical energy into mechanical rotational speed, which rotates the propeller. Wiring an RC plane motor may seem to be a daunting task, but there are only three wires that you need to connect to your electronic speed controller (ESC). All the other electrical and electronic components take care of the motor's speed and how the RC plane functions.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the three wires that extend from the RC plane's motor. The wires are color coded in red, black and yellow. Each wire has a plastic plug on the end for you to connect to the ESC.

    • 2

Locate the ESC, which is near the RC motor. The ESC is the only piece of equipment in the RC plane that has several connections, so it's easily recognizable. The ESC is the central control unit of the plane and connects the battery, the RC receiver and the motor. When the ESC receives a signal from the RC transmitter, it increases or decreases the amount of electrical energy from the battery that is sent to the plane's motor.

    • 3

Insert the three plugs on the color-coded wires into the ESC terminal sockets. Each socket has the same color coding. Insert each colored wire into the socket of the same color.
