How to Land a Model Aircraft With a Rudder

Model airplanes can be used by flying hobbyists for personal entertainment. The planes are capable of flying in the air and doing tricks, such as 360-degree rotations. There are various parts of a model plane that keep it soaring, such as its propeller, engine, landing gear and rudder; the rudder is the triangular upwards pointing piece of the plane that helps the plane move up, down, left or right. You can land the plane safely by keeping the rudder properly aligned.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut your throttle strength down to about half of what it currently is set at with the RC controls.

    • 2

Twist the plane towards the direction of the wind with the controls; the plane's nose should be pointing into the wind.

    • 3

Let the plane's back side, containing the elevator and its rudder, rise with the controls; the nose of the plane should now be pointed downwards at about a 45-degree angle, according to RCHomePage.com (see References 1.)

    • 4

Let go of the throttle gradually with the controls as the plane approaches the final 45 to 60 feet of its descent, according to RCHomePage.com (see References 1.) Ensure the plane's nose rises slightly upwards out of its approximate 45-degree angle as the plane approaches its landing surface.

    • 5

Pull the elevator and rudder downwards with the controls during the final 1 or 2 feet of the plane's landing, according to RCHomePage.com (see References 1,) so that the plane's wheels are parallel with the ground as the plane lands.
