How to Make a Paper Airplane That Comes Back to You

Paper airplanes have seemingly been around for ages. Many children love making these simple creations for the sheer joy of watching them fly. Adults can even become paper plane enthusiasts, turning what was once a hobby into an art form. While paper planes come in all styles, shapes and with varying levels of difficulty, a "boomerang" plane uses classic folds in its relatively simple design. Follow a few basic steps to create one for yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Select a sheet of 8 1/2 inches by 11 inches plain white or decorative paper. Fold the sheet in half vertically. Use your thumb to make a crease before reopening the paper and smoothing it flat.

    • 2

Fold the top two corners diagonally down to meet the center crease. Flatten the top edges by making creases. You should have formed a neat triangle. This will be the base for the nose of the boomerang plane.

    • 3

Fold the nose of the plane down so that the point falls about 3 centimeter below the bottom edge of the triangle. This will create a smaller inverted triangle. Fold this inverted triangle back up so that the tip extends about 2 centimeter past the top of the plane.

    • 4

Fold the very tip back down slightly. Then fold the entire plane in half. Make sure to line up the edges exactly so that the finished boomerang plane will be symmetrical rather than lopsided. Fold each wing down at a slight angle, folding a narrow crease along each edge to form stabilizers. Hold just before the nose and give the plane a good toss to watch it come back to you!
