Things You'll Need
Instructions
Cut one igniter out from the taped igniter strip using the scissors. Make the cut in the middle of the tape area which separates the igniters from each other. Do not remove the tape from the igniter itself. The tape is needed across the two igniter leads for insulation.
Install the igniter tip into the nozzle at the rear of the engine. Make certain the igniter has contact with the propellant.
Insert an igniter retaining plug into the engine nozzle by pressing the plug into the recess firmly with a finger. Be sure not to bend the igniter wires before the plug is in place. This helps to ensure that the igniter remains in contact with the propellant.
Bend the igniter leads back from the engine nozzle and form a "U" shape at their tips with your fingers. Spread the leads slightly away from each other.
Install the engine into the rocket and secure onto the launch pad according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Connect the two micro-clips, one to each of the engine igniter leads, making sure that they do not touch each other or any other metal surface. The micro-clips are attached to each of the two 24 gauge wires that come from the launch controller.
Switch the safety control to the "off" position according to the particular model launch controller used.
Verify that the launch area is clear.
Depress the ignition switch to ignite the model rocket engine.
