How to Connect a Phone to an Aviation Headset

Pilots wear aviation headsets to block outside noise, allowing them to talk on the radio, hear air traffic communication and perform navigation duties. However, a pilot can use a device called an "aviation headset adapter" to hook up her cell phone to her headset, allowing her to listen to messages, music or podcasts while flying. The adapter has a safety feature that cuts the phone's sound if air traffic control, another aircraft or an automated signal transmits over the aircraft's radios.

     Insert your aviation headset adapter's phone prong into your cell phone's "AUX" port. Make sure the cord is secure.
