Hatz CB-1 Aircraft Specifications

The Hatz CB-1 is a lightweight biplane that was designed by John Hatz in 1968 for amateur "homebuilt" construction. With "homebuilt" planes, blueprints, plans and instructions are supplied so you can build the plane from scratch. You can also order the components pre-made and assemble them at home.
  1. Engine

    • The Hatz CB-1 is powered by a nose-mounted Continental O-200 four-cylinder aircraft engine. The horizontally opposed, four-stroke, 201 cubic-inch motor was built by Teledyne Continental Motors. It has a bore of 4.06 inches and a stroke of 3.88 inches, with a compression ratio of 7 to 1. It has hydraulic lifters, an updraft carburetor and runs on 80/87 avgas.

    Performance

    • The 100 horsepower, 2,750-rpm engine gives the Hatz a cruising speed of 85 miles per hour (mph) and a top speed of 105 mph, creating G-forces of five positive and three negative. It climbs at 700 feet per minute and has a landing speed of 45 mph, a stall speed of 38 mph and a service ceiling of 12,000 feet.

    Dimensions

    • The CB-1 is 19 feet long and 7.8 feet tall. It has a wing span of 25.3 feet and a wing area of 178 square feet. The CB-1's gross weight is 1,400 pounds, with an empty weight of 850 pounds and a load weight of 550 pounds.
