How to Make a Mini Helicopter Hover

Hovering ability is one reason why many RC enthusiasts choose a helicopter over an airplane. However, the maneuver is highly sophisticated with larger helicopters, requiring changes in the pitch (or angle) of the blades and the yaw (or thrust of the tail blade). To avoid such complexities, many choose to fly a mini helicopter, since the pilot is only required to manipulate the aircraft's throttle and trim to hover.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the helicopter on a flat surface in a wide-open area where there is little air movement.

    • 2

Lift the throttle joystick up gently enough for the vehicle to rise into the air. Minimize any risk of damage by keeping the aircraft within a few feet from the ground.

    • 3

Reduce the throttle slowly, and pay close attention to how rapidly the aircraft continues to rise. Stop decreasing power once it begins to settle at a given height.

    • 4

Increase the power in minor increments to keep the aircraft from losing altitude, or reduce the throttle to prevent it from ascending.

    • 5

Slide the trim adjuster (located beneath the steering joystick) to the left to compensate for clockwise yaw, or to the right to reduce counter-clockwise rotation.
