Things You'll Need
Instructions
Open up the emergency blanket completely and fold in half so the edges line up all the way around. Leave the blanket intact to turn the whole thing into a large rectangular shaped balloon or cut both layers of the Mylar plastic to the shape and size balloon you desire. Balloons do not have to be round, they can be any shape you desire.
Draw designs on one side of one or both pieces of the Mylar plastic balloon. Name the balloon or mark the occasion it is being made for with a special message in permanent ink. Leave at least an inch at the outer edge of the Mylar blank.
Apply duct tape to the blank outer edge of one of the two sides of the Mylar plastic balloon. Line up the tape so that about half of its width is hanging off the edge of the Mylar.
Turn the side of the balloon with the tape over so that the adhesive side is facing up. Place the matching pieces of Mylar on top and line up the edges before pressing the duct tape all around the seams.
Slice open a half inch slit into the duct taped seam and insert the nozzle from a helium tank. Activate the nozzle as you squeeze the duct tape onto it to create an air-tight seal. Most helium nozzles are hard rubber tips that release helium when they are bent slightly.
Pull the nozzle from the helium tank out of the slit in the duct tape when you are satisfied with the amount of helium in the balloon. Cover the slit quickly with a two inch strip of duct tape. Tie or tape a length of ribbon or fishing line onto the Mylar balloon if you want to control it or keep it from flying away.
