How to Find the Center of Balance Point on a RC Plane

Flying a radio-controlled (RC) airplane can be both fun and relaxing as long as your plane has the proper balance. An unbalanced RC plane is difficult to control and more likely to crash. Each plane has its own center of gravity. Find your plane's center of gravity to check how balanced your plane is. If the plane is unbalanced, you can tinker with it to achieve the proper balance. Before you do that, however, you must find the balance point.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the instructions that came with your plane or examine the plane itself for a center of gravity indicator. According to rc-airplane-world.com, RC plane plans and pre-manufactured plans should mark the balance point; check before proceeding.

    • 2

Travel your finger back one-third the length of the plane toward the main spar line of the plane.

    • 3

Place your fingertips under each wing and lift the plane off the ground; let it hang from your fingers.

    • 4

Notice how the plane sits. If the plane is level, then you have found the correct balance point. If the plane is not balanced, try moving the battery pack or any gear inside the plane either backward or forward to level the plane out.
