United Flight Systems
There are several flight schools based near the private David Wayne Hooks airport in far Northwest Houston (actually the Spring/Tomball area). United Flight Systems is one of the schools that are certified as F.A.R. 141 Flight Schools by the FAA. This means that they must adhere to FAA standards regarding curriculum design, number of flight hours with an instructor and the manner in which students are examined.

Flying Tigers
Flying Tigers (affiliated with Lee College) offers a F.A.R. 141 pilot school at Ellington Airport south of Houston. Formerly known as Ellington Field, the airport was at one time an Air Force base but is now part of the Houston Airport System. Flying Tigers is a locally based flight school. At Flying Tigers you can choose to receive a Private, Instrument Rating or Commercial license. When getting flight instruction for college credit, the costs tend to be lower than if you are not enrolled in college.

Anson Air
Anson Air, located at Sugar Land Regional Airport, is the only FAA Part 141 certified pilot school in the southwest Houston area. They offer private pilot licenses as well as advanced training on state-of-the art "glass panel" aircraft such as the Cessna 172S NavIII. You can also apply some of your hours in flight school toward a bachelor's or associate's degree in aviation at Mountain State University, an online university.
