How to Install Training Gear on RC Helicopters

Learning to fly an RC helicopter can be a daunting task. To hover, the craft needs to be balanced and the gyro needs to be working properly. The gyro helps keep the helicopter level when the pilot is not steering. The most common problem experienced by new helicopter pilots is that the craft tips to one side as it rises off the ground. Tipping over can cause broken rotor blades and rotor head parts. Training gear is used to prevent the tip over. Most training gear consists of wood or carbon fiber rods installed in an "X" configuration with ping pong balls attached to the rod ends.

Instructions

    • 1

Attach the training gear mounting brackets to the helicopter landing skids. The brackets should snap on the the skid and the strut that connects the skid to the helicopter body.

    • 2

Pass the rods through the mounting bracket. Attach the rod to the four-way connector included with the training gear. When each rod has been installed, the rods should form an "X."

    • 3

Attach the ping pong balls to each rod end. Try to center each rod so both sides of the craft are protected. Centering the training gear will also help keep the helicopter balanced.
