How to Calculate Air Miles Between Two Points on a Map

Air miles, or nautical miles, are used in air navigation to measure the distance between two points. This is mathematically calculated using the great circle or Rhumb Line method on a Mercator projection map, but it is a very complex process. An easier method is to convert "land miles" between two points to air miles. There are also several websites that will calculate air miles if you input two places.

Instructions

    • 1

Select two location points on a map.

    • 2

Go to timeanddate.com/worldclock/distance.html and find your two locations on the drop-down menus. Click on "calculate distance."

    • 3

You will be given the distance in kilometers, land miles and air miles.
