Instructions
Get a third class medical certificate and student pilot cicense before starting your training. This is not technically required until you go solo. However, if there is any reason that you cannot pass the physical, you need to know about it in advance, before you spend a lot of money on training.
Sit down with your instructor before officially beginning your training and let him know your goals. You need to find an instructor who has the time available to give you lessons every day. It may even be necessary to hire two instructors at once (this would be unusual and the instructors would need to coordinate lessons with one another). Ask your instructor to recommend all the study materials you will need in advance.
Study as much of the textbooks on your own as possible before beginning formal lessons. Some excellent video products are also available, and many students find them helpful.
Use a PC-based simulator to learn the functions of the instruments in the plane you will be learning to fly. Ask your instructor to recommend an appropriate simulator. The more you know before you begin, the more efficient your training will be.
Ask your instructor to plan a training schedule that will make the most efficient use of your training hours. A total of 40 flight hours are required to earn a private pilot certificate. However, there are many specific sub requirements, such as hours flown solo, hours flown at night and cross-country hours. It takes careful planning to fit all this together in 40 hours. Keep in mind that this process will not be perfect. There will almost certainly be areas that you have difficulty with as a student and require extra time to complete. This is fine, and you should take the time needed to master these areas.
Plan to have a flying lesson every day that the weather allows. The more often you train, the sooner you will complete the basic requirements, and the less material you will have to repeat.
Talk with your instructor regularly about how your training is going and what areas you need to work on. To maximize your efficiency, you need to make sure you are not neglecting any trouble spots. You will need to be proactive about your training
