Northern mockingbirds are omnivores whose primary food source is insects, berries and seeds. They consume insects mostly in the summer months and fruit in the fall and winter. Beetles, grasshoppers, butterflies, earthworms, bees, ants, wasps and even the occasional small lizard fall among their prey. Mockingbirds also love cherries, crab apples and mulberries. Plant thick shrubbery in your yard to attract mockingbirds, and feed this songbird a tasty peanut butter ball dish during the lean winter months.
