How to Wrap a Knife Handle Using Leather String

Knives are popular among hunters, collectors and people who perform knife tricks. Wrapping the handle in leather can serve both aesthetic and practical purposes. It gives the knife an interesting new look and provides a strong, durable grip. Some knife owners also prefer the natural feel of leather to synthetic blade handles. Wrapping a knife handle in leather string is a simple process.

  Choose durable, high-quality leather string.

  Soak the string in water for a minute or two.

  Wrap the handle starting at the base, moving the leather string around the handle and being sure not to leave any gaps between the leather wraps.

  Continue in this fashion until you reach the top of the handle.

  Repeat the last few wraps at the top several times. Cut off the excess string and tuck the end of the string into the wrap.

  Set the knife aside and wait for the wet leather to dry. When it dries, it will shrink slightly, tightening the leather around the handle.
