How to Keep Bees & Jackets From Hummingbird Feeders

Hummingbirds, bees and wasps don't like to share when it comes to feeders. They are all attracted to the sweet, nectar-like mixture commonly used in hummingbird feeders. Instructions

    • 1

Move hummingbird feeder into shady location. According to the World of Hummingbirds, bees are not smart enough to figure out when a hummingbird feeder has been moved to a new location and prefer to drink nectar in the sunlight.

    • 2

Remove yellow parts from hummingbird feeder. Hummingbirds.net says bees and wasps are attracted to the color yellow.

    • 3

Combine 3 cups of water with 1 cup of sugar in a bowl for bee nectar.

    • 4

Place bee nectar by hummingbird feeder. Every day move the bowl farther away from the hummingbird feeder until the bees and wasps are no longer close to the hummingbird feeder.
