How to Build a Waterfowl Enclosure

A waterfowl enclosure is built to protect the waterfowl from potential predators. It provides a safe, natural shelter in which ducks and geese can get their necessary exercise. It also makes for an easier roundup in the evening when they are placed in their nighttime enclosure. Follow these steps to build a waterfowl enclosure.

Instructions

    • 1

Sketch the plans for your waterfowl enclosure. Use spray paint to mark the floor plan on the ground where you will build the waterfowl enclosure. Dig a trench around the perimeter 18 inches deep.

    • 2

Stick kennel posts perpendicular to the ground spaced evenly apart and allowing space for a gate. Pour concrete around the posts so they remain in place. Allow 24 hours for the cement to dry.

    • 3

Lay the bottom kennel rails in the trench. Connect the bottom kennel rails to the end of the kennel posts using the hardware. Assemble the top kennel rails using the hardware.

    • 4

Install the aviary net. You can buy a ready-made aviary net or you can build your own using poultry wire. Just trim the poultry wire to the dimensions of your waterfowl enclosure then fasten it together using the tie wraps.

    • 5

Fasten the aviary net to the kennel posts. Make sure it is stretched tight enough that potential predators can't enter the enclosure and attack your waterfowl. If necessary stretch a second aviary net to make the enclosure more secure.

    • 6

Cover the waterfowl enclosure using the aviary net. Connect the aviary net to the top of the kennel posts and stretch it to the other side. Use kennel posts or tree trunks to prop up the aviary net every 5 square feet.

    • 7

Decorate the waterfowl enclosure with tree trunks, a child's pool and a housing unit. Plant grass to complete the enclosure.
