How to Make a Woodpecker Feeder

Here's an easy-to-make gag gift for any bird enthusiast or nature lover. Hang this woodpecker feeder up with your other bird feeders and wait for people to ask what it is.

Things You'll Need

  • 12-inch length of twine or leather shoelace
  • Power drill with 3/16-inch bit

Instructions

    • 1

Determine which end of your tree branch will be the top of your woodpecker feeder.

    • 2

Use your drill to bore a hole all the way through the wood about 1/2 inch down from the top.

    • 3

Thread your twine or leather shoelace through the hole.

    • 4

Tie the ends of the twine or leather shoelace together so that you have a loop with a chunk of wood hanging from it.

    • 5

Hang your woodpecker feeder where your guests will notice it, such as a front yard tree, or anywhere you have other legitimate bird feeders hanging. When people ask you what that piece of wood hanging from the string is, tell them it's a woodpecker feeder.
