Guide to How to Make a Quartz Light

Quartz is a mineral found in the Earth's crust in several varieties, among them milky quartz. Milky quartz crystals have a composition which enables the phenomenon of triboluminescence, which is the visible appearance of light when to objects are rubbed together to produce friction or the breaking or separation of two objects. When quartz crystals impact one another, they produce a flash of light visible to the naked eye.
